Border Builder is a garden border planner. Tell it your bed dimensions, aspect, soil type, and style preference; it produces a complete planting plan with a top-down map, side-view elevation, planting list, year-round bloom timeline, and shopping list.

Is Border Builder free?

Yes. Border Builder is free to download, and designing and viewing a border is free. A one-time Border Builder Pro purchase unlocks saving unlimited borders, editing the planting (move and swap plants, re-plan around a month), and exporting a shopping list and PDF.

How do I start a plan?

On the My Borders screen, tap "New border" (or "Create new border" if you already have saved plans) and walk through the five-step wizard. Any selection is valid; Border Builder will find appropriate plants for your choices.

Can I save more than one plan?

You can keep one border for free. Border Builder Pro, a one-time purchase, unlocks saving unlimited borders. Saved plans appear on My Borders, sorted by most recently created; long-press a card to rename or delete.

Can I edit a plan after it is generated?

Yes, with Border Builder Pro. The one-time unlock lets you adjust plant quantities, swap a plant for an alternative, move plants on the map, and re-plan around a chosen month. The free version generates and shows the full plan; Pro adds the hands-on editing, saving multiple borders, and PDF export.

Does Border Builder need an internet connection?

Almost never. Border Builder works fully offline, with one optional exception: if you tap "Use my location" to find your hardiness zone, iOS sends your location to Apple's geocoding service. Skip that and enter your zone by hand, and nothing else ever leaves your device.

Why does one of my plants show a grey ring instead of an illustration?

That is a fallback for any plant whose artwork has not shipped yet. The plant is still in your plan; only its illustration is missing. New artwork ships in app updates.

Which regions does Border Builder support?

Border Builder supports the United Kingdom and North America. You choose your region during setup: UK plans use RHS hardiness, while in the US and Canada you pick your state or province so plans match your USDA hardiness zone. The catalogue is filtered to your region and climate, so you only see plants suited to where you garden.
